Amazing High School Teachers: Take Three!
I was lucky enough to have both of the Larks at Orange Lutheran.
Mr. Lark was my first teacher, in my first class, on my very first day of school. As a freshman, I remember sitting there having a major anxiety attack, which was quickly remedied by a few facts about “That Day in History” and a visit from what he liked to call the “TRex.” I went from shaking it my boots to thinking that the day might not be as bad as I thought it was going to be.
I didn’t come across Mrs. Lark until my junior year, when I ended up in her Psychology class. Little did I know that her bubbly personality and crazy ways to remember things would set me on a path to another year in her AP Psych class. It’s rare that you find a person who inspires you to pursue something…but she was it. I put down “Psychology” as a major on all my college applications and I wanted to be just like her. Obviously, that didn’t work out the way I planned, but I like to think that I find some of my positive quirks from the days I spent in class with her.
In our last few weeks of class, she announced that she was going to have a baby. I remember screaming with joy and feeling disappointed that I wouldn’t be around to meet the adorable little man that two of my favorite humans were about to bring into the world. Four years later, that little baby bump is Ben…and he is the sweetest little boy. He spent our time together trekking through the plants and playing with sticks. He radiates joy everywhere that he goes just like his mommy and does a mean TRex like his daddy. Thomas on the other hand, is quiet and observant, but his smile brings the same exact joy.
I couldn’t be happier to see how this little family has grown since my time as a student with them! It’s crazy to think how much can change in four years.
